About 21st Century Geeks

21st Century Geeks is a blog of geek studies authored by Michael Underwood, focusing on geek media convergence and intersections of various geek cultures. There are many types of geeks, from comic geeks to gamer geeks to sf/f fans to anime fans to tech geeks and many more.  The many geek subcultures flow together and overlap organically, combining into a larger cultural group known here as the Geek Subcultural Complex.

This blog examines the cultural flows between geek subcultures and the interplay of geek culture and the mainstream. 21st Century Geeks includes original analysis as well as news relevant to geek culture, links to other studies/essays, and thrives on discussion with readers and dialogue with other scholarship.

Michael Underwood holds an interdisciplinary M.A. in Folklore Studies from the University of Oregon.  When not studying geek culture, he is creating it as a writer of speculative fiction.
